Wicklein Earns Spot in MS Honor Band

Inspired by one of her older sisters, Madison Wicklein started playing the flute four years ago. This weekend (Feb. 25) she will perform in her first honor band performance as the fourth chair in the 2023 University of Colorado Middle School Honor Band.

The CU Boulder Honor Band Festival joins the best middle school musicians in Colorado. The performance will take place on Saturday, Feb. 25, at 6 pm at Macky Auditorium on the CU Boulder campus.

Madison, an 8th grader at PRA, auditioned and was selected for the honor band. She is the only only flute from an Adams 12 Five-Star school to earn the prestigious honor this year.

“This is the first honor band that I tried out for, so to make it means that I now have confidence in my flute playing abilities,” Madison said.

In her fourth year at PRA, Madison hones her flute skills through daily practice and takes lessons with a professional flutist. She said she enjoys being able to play fun songs on the flute and have them sound good. She is also a proficient piccolo player.

“I chose the flute because one of my older sisters plays the flute and I thought it looked like something I would like to learn how to play,” Madison said. “I plan to continue playing the flute through high school and maybe to pursue a music major in college.”
